One of the many lessons I’ve learned over the years from my Oregon cousin Ed is to NOT take on mechanical projects that are above my skill level. Installing headers in my ‘78 Chevy Nova seems like a fairly simple job, but the reality is much different especially if you don’t have a vehicle lift. So, FAST Motorsports in Apache Junction is in the process of installing a brand new set of Hedman 1 3/4” long tube headers. They will also be creating a two into one 3” single exhaust. Why a single exhaust? Because I watched an Engine Masters TV show where they tested a 3” single exhaust vs. a 2.5” dual exhaust. Yep, the single was worth almost 10 extra horsepower. They were also upgrading a 2005 jeep wrangler with heavy duty axles (front & rear) from a 2010 Jeep Rubicon. They also rebuilt the transmission and transfer case. The Orange FAST Motorsports Off-Road racing 1981 Jeep Scrambler is being upgraded with a wider 9” Ford differential in the rear and a wider DANA 44 upfront. Harley and the crew are getting it ready for the 2023 BAJA 1000 race. I also took a picture of three transmissions that are now fully rebuilt and ready to sell. One is a 5R55W Ford Explorer trans., one is a GM 6L80E used in 2009 to 2018 GM pickups, and one is a 47RE from early 2000s Dodge diesel pickups. Transmission diagnostics, rebuilding, and installations are a big part of the FAST Motorsports business, along with general automotive repairs and they love working on older vehicles like my ‘78 Nova.
